I have norton antivirus protection and It has expired. Unfortunately, I can't afford to purchase the updated protection right now. I use firefox as my browser. Thanks so very much for your time...I'm freaking out over here 'cause I just had a virus last year....please help!!

AVG by Grisoft is definitely NOT "The Best". Unfortunately one of the things it is not the best at, is doing what is is supposed to do, detecting viruses!
In short, AVG is crap!

etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam. AVG has proven itself to be a mediocre performer at best. Absolutely crappy at worst. Missing almost 20%, when trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.
AVG = Average, at best!
There are much better free alternatives, such as Avast, Active Virus Shield, and Avria Anti-Vir.
I like best the AOL Active Virus Shield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

Note: The way I have mine set is to only notify me that updates are availiable, but to not download them automaticaly. Then I can check to be sure I get just the ones I want. I then click on "custom", and after the updates have been downloaded I look them over to see which ones I want, then disconnect from the net, disable firewall and anti-virus program, and then install the updates, and then re-enable the firewall and anti-virus programs before reconnecting to the net.

Note = Run them in safe mode if possible(click on link if "how to" steps needed) = , then after running them and fixing any problem, disable system restore = , reboot, and then re-enable system restore.

Before you install AVG, got to Nortons website and use the removel tool to completely delete Norton from your PC. If not, AVG and Norton may conflict with each other.
do not use spybot--downloaded it last night and it destroyed my audio and pop-ups to do this and do that like u would not believe--have tried Mcfee and Norton--they ok
